At the request of the Loan Council, the Commonwealth Bank Board has agreed to underwrite a loan of 71 million pounds to finance the works programme of the Commonwealth and States. The first strike by coalminers on the northern fields against further mechanisation in the collieries begins on Monday at Lambton mines, where the miners resent tile ‘ introduction of a mechanical coal loader, which they will refuse to operate.
