At the request of the Loan Council, the Commonwealth Bank Board has agreed to underwrite a loan of 71 million pounds to finance the works programme of the Commonwealth and States. The interest rate will be 33 per cent., the issue price £99/15/-, and the period, fourteen years. SEAMEN’S WAGES,. . MELBOURNE, November S. Seamen and many others employees in the shipping industry will receive increases of pay under awards that have ‘been' delivered by the Federal Arbitration Court to-day. Able seamen, will receive an increase from £l3 2/6 a month to £l4/7/6. The overtime rate, however, is reduced from 2/9 to 2/6 per hour. The pay of firemen and greasers is increased by 25/- per month to £l6/17/6, and that of trimmers by 25/- to £l4/7/6 per month. MINING’ DISPUTE SYDNEY, November 8. The first strike by coalminers on the northern fields against further mechanisation in the collieries begins on Monday at Lambton mines, where the miners resent tile ‘ introduction of a mechanical coal loader, which they will refuse to operate. The strike is expected to extend to other collieries of the Broken Hill Proprietary.
