Playing their' last match in Australia yesterday, the New Zea'and women’s hockey team brilliantly defeated Sydney Metropolitan team by 4 goals to 1. after the scores had been' 1-1 at half-time. The New Zealand team was: Mrs. O’Connor; Misses' McDonald. Woolley; Mackie, Sanson, Hansen; Savile, McKenzie, Reid. Dahlberg and Cotter. ‘ With pretty, short passing movements. the New Zealanders kept, the city team on the defensive throughout the second half. Miss Read scored one goal and Miss Cotter three goals. AT AUCKLAND. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND. August 11. In the New Zealand Challenge Shield hockey match. Auckland S defeated Poverty Bay 1. GREYMOUTH MATCHES In the continuation of the West Coast. Hockey Association’s fixtures on the Recreation Ground on Saturday, Pacific and Cobden (winners of competition) drew, and Mawhera easily defeated. Wesley. The Cobden-Pacific game was last, and the class of hockey was good. | Sequin goaled for Pacific and Eatwell for Cobden. Mawhera were far too strong lor Wesley, and might have- won by more than the S —2 margin. Sloss. Walker and Devonport. each scored two goals, ami Williams and Perrin one each, for the winners. Moore and Sotheran netted for Wesley.
