BRITAIN’S BUTTER SUPPLIES
NEW ZEALAND’S FIRST PLACE. [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. —COPYRIGHT.] (Received August 10. 10 a.m.) LONDON, August 9. The Imperial Economic Committee’s report dealing with supplies of butter in 1934 draws special attention to the fact that New Zealand for the first time supplanted Denmark as our principal supplier. Imports from New Zealand were 2,677,000 cwt. compared with Denmark’s 2.486,000. Australia was third with 2,104,000. Empire supplies amoutned to 54 per cent, of thev total imports. The largest proportion recorded. The consumption of butter per head of the population was 25.2 lbs., an increase of 6.5 compared with 1930. Margarine was 7.$ compared with 11.8.
