Mr. R. L. Gick, Railway Guard, Te Kuitl, has been transferred to. Greymouth. Mr. Gick was formerly a member of the Greymouth staff.

Mr. IE A. Watts, who has been Passenger Foreman, at Greymouth, for the past four months, has received notice of transfer on promotion to the position of Foreman, at Westport.

Mr. Egerton Lowe, Trinity College Examiner for the South Island, this year, is expected to arrive in Hokitika on August 22. ‘ He will commence the annual College examinations in Greymouth, about August 23- or 24.

Mrs. F. H. Denton, who was first secretary of the Greymouth branch of the Plunket Society, and who has been an active member for many years, has been elected an honorary life member of the Society.

■ The death occurred at Nelson, last night, of Mrs. E. Barnett, mother of Messrs J. and C. Barnett, pf Reefton. Deceased was aged 71. She was predeceased by her husband two years ago, and is survived by one daughter and three sons. " .

Messrs. R. Marley', W., Davies and J. Essex, ex-Imperial 'men, left this morning, for Christchurch, to attend the “Dedication of the Colours,” to he conducted by the Canterbury Branch of the Old Contemptibles Association, to-morrow. The Bishop of Christchurch, Bishop West-Watson, will perform the ceremony, and the Gover-nor-General. Lord Galway, will take part.

Mr. J. S. Ellis, who has resigned from the Railway Department, was farewelled by his fellow members of the wharf shunting stuff, and presented with a set of crystal ware, and an electric jug. The presentation was made by Mr. W. Fuller, supported by Mr. F. R. Greenwood, President, of the Grey Branch of the A.S.R.S., both of whom wished Mr. Ellis the best of luck and prosperity in his undertaking.

The death occurred yesterday, at her residence, Rocklands, Buller Valley, of Miss Walker, well known in that district, the family, having been in residence for almost half a century. Deceased was 73 years of age, and is survived by one sister, Mrs. Mlrfln, and three brothers Otto (Rocklands), Hector (Nelson), Tasman (Hawera). She was a daughter of the late Captain and Mrs. Walker of Nelson, who were among Nelson’s early settlers.
