[OUB OWN OOBBESPONDBNIJ REEFTON, August 10. Mr Aubrey Watson, eldest son of Mr and Mrs A. P. Watson, of Crushington, who left New Zealand some months ago to gain experience as an electrical engineer, has gained a position in an electrical firm's draughting office in Manchester. H. Morris, the West Coast League representative, who was injured in the West Coast-Canterbury match last week-end, returned to Reefton on Thursday night. He will be off work for some time, as he suffered an injury to the ligaments of a knee. Oh Friday evening, the pupils of the Catholic Schools held their annual ball in the assembly hall. There was a splendid attendance, and the children spent an enjoyable evening. Mrs F. W. Archer provided the music. Mesdames Barry, Austin and Floyd and Aliss Spittle acted as judges. Many striking and original costumes were worn by the children. Supper was provided by the ladies. The children dispersed at an early hour, after which the grown-ups took the floor. Mr M. Parish acted as AIC.. Prize-winners were:—Junior girls, Maureen Hindmarsh “Sun, Aloon and Stars”; boy, Billy' Costelloe, “Three O’clock in the Morning.” Most original boy, Cliff Hoy, “West Coast Rep”; girl. Unice Clarke “Grandmother and Child.”
Most, economical girl's costume, Marjorie -Blackadder, “Mother’s Help,” Patricia and S. McCaffrey, “Two Little Girls in Blue.” Best dressed pair, Marie Dopgan • and W. Costelloe. “Polly Peachuni and Her Courtier." Senior girl, Katherine Osbourne, “Gipsy”; boy, “Empire Trade.” Most original girls, Norma Johnston “Nurse,” Gloria Johnston “Soldier.” .Most economical boy, Jim Tobin, "The Girl Guide.' and Sergt. Hudgins’ special prize, A. Chettle “The Golfer." I ? ather Butler presented the prizes and thanked the ladies for organising tile gathering, and those who had donated prizes. Mr B. Winchester presided over a meeting of the committee of the Reefton Boxing Association in the Gymnasium Hall. Rev. Father Heavey’ repot ted on his interview with Mr Hayes, headmaster of the District. High School, on the possibilities of conducting a schoolboy tournament, intimating that a largo number seemed particularly keen on the idea. It was decided that a schoolboys’ tournament and three good amateur bouts lie staged during September. The secretary was instructed to communicate with the Karoro Sports club regarding gloves. Mr J. Crossman was appointed assistant secretary.
