MYSTERY EXPLOSION

What is the mystery behind the ex plosion at tlie Leuna ammonia works near Merseburg, Germany? According to official reports, four expert chemists were killed at the factory. which is the second largest nitrogen and chemical concern in Germany. An official statement declared: “It happened in tlie course of experiments.”
Now, however, according to a message from Cologne to the “Excelsior” iho number of victims is believed to be much higher. This report says that the explosion was due to the escape of a new war gas and occurred during tests. Ordinary gas masks, it is reported. are believed powerless against (his new gas.—Central News.
INVISIBLE DEATH RAY

Experiments with an invisible death ray—tile "black ray" wliicli can kill at a distance of over six miles, have been carried out near Bourges. Several animals were taken to a selected spot about 61 miles away and the ray was “sighted” to strike this place. Three of the animals were killed instantaneously.—Central Nows.
