MEAT NEGOTIATIONS

EXPERTS’ DISCUSSION.

[BY CABLE —PBESS ABBW. —COPYBIOHT.]

LONDON, May 23.

A decision was taken at the last meeting of the Imperial Ministers regarding the'meat trade, to refer the question of the quantities of Australian and New Zealand shipments of mutton and lamb to experts. This decision had an unexpected sequel to-day. The Australian and New Zealand experts had planned a private talk in an attempt to thrash out and agree as to figures for future consignments, but, as a result of someone at the parent Conference making a suggestion that experts of other delegations might attend, there assembled a large conference of experts from all of the meat-exporting countries that are now represented in London. The only result of this was a long and aimless talk on the meat problems of the whole Empire. The concrete subject that was referred to tb.e Australian and New Zealand experts was never reached, and there now must be a later meeting of the Australian and New Zealand experts, but as a consequence of to-day’s fiasco, there can be no further Ministerial meat meeting till next week.
