COMPENSATION AWARDS

WELLINGTON, May 24
In the case in which £2,000 damages was claimed by a dairy farmer, Charles John Duffy, from the Crown, for injuries received by being struck by a railway bus, the jury in the Supreme Court, to-day, found for plaintiff. He was awarded £416/8/- special damages and £B5O general damages. On application of the defence, the motion for judgment was stood over till Tuesday for further consideration. Judgment for plaintiff with £63/13/special damages and £5O general damages, was given to-day, in the case in which £347/13/- was claimed as the result of a pedestrian being knocked down by a car. Henry Edwin Manning, building contractor, was plaintiff. The defendant was Jocelyn Vogel, married, of Lower Hutt.
WILL SET ASIDE.
CHRISTCHURCH, May 24.
Alleging that the testator was of unsound mind, memory and understanding at the time that he made his will, George Cridge, of Darfield, butcher, asked in the Supreme Court to-day that the will of the late George Edward Smith, of Christchurch, boot importer, be set aside. Defendant was Alice Maude Turner, spinster, of Christchurch, the sole executrix and the sola beneficiary under the will. Defendant did not contest the application.
Evidence was given of tbe testator’s mental condition, and Justice Northcroft granted the application.
AWARD UPHELD.
CHRISTCHURCH, May 24
In a reserved judgment to-dav Mr. Justice Johnston dismissed the application by the defendants for a new trial of an action which arose from a fatal collision on the West Coast in December, 1933. The plaintiff in the original action was Mrs. Freda Hill, whoso husband, Hugh Holmes Hill, died some months after the accident, and the defendants were Shaw Taxi Service, of Westport. The jury awarded Mrs. Hill £1.750 damages. His Honor refused to disturb the jury's verdict.
