COUNCILLOR’S DEATH RUMOUR
DIED THREE DAYS AFTER. LONDON', February 1. Councillor J. Couper Davie, of Canterbury, collapsed and died at. his home in New Dovernoad shortly, after getting out of bed. Five days ago there was a widespread ‘ rumour that he was dead, which he treated as a joke. The same day he attended the funeral of Dr. Bremncr, senior alderman of the city, who died suddenly-, and ho then said, ih an interview, “That’s the way I shall go." - Mr. Davie was a merchant, aged 51, and had been 31 years in India, where he was' a mi ember of Calcutta Corporation, tile Bengal Legislative Council and the Advisory Committee of the East Indian-Railway, a commissioner for tho Port of Calcutta, and chairman of the Calcutta Chamber of Trade and ths Punjab Chambers of Trade.
