The British Government, as from March G, will increase the import duties on various elementary iron and steel products. In some instances the increase is to 50 per cent, of the, value of the imports. In other eases, they will be tighter than the present rate by one-third of the value.

VENIZELOS FORTUNE.

LONDON, March 21.

The “Daily Telegraph” says that despite the confiscation of the Greek property of M. and Madame Venizelos, they still are wealthy. Madame Venizelos has inherited a one-third share in an estate worth more than two millions «terHng. left by her father, named J. S. Schilizzi. who was naturalised as an Englishman. Most of this money is invested in England. Moreover, Madame Venizelos draws an income from the estate of her mother, who also has inherited a third share of J. S. Schilizzi’s fortune, which also is invested in England.

ROAD SAFETY.

( RUGBY, March 20. The Transport Minister, in the Commons, stated that he would consult. manufacturers and others, conj corned on the question of equipping all motor vehicles with a means of reducing fatalities on roads.

BRITAIN’S TRADE.

RUGBY, March 20. A review of overseas trade in February shows an increase in the value cf exports in that month compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, was rather greater than that recorded for January and December, and considerably above the average monthly increase in 1934, compared with 1933.

BELGIAN MINISTRY

BRUSSELS, March 21. The King continued his consultation with politicians and industiialists. It is understood that the idea cf forming a National Government is gaining ground. The Socialists have agreed to participate.

GERMANY’S TRADE BALANCE.

BERLIN, March 21.

Germany’s adverse trade balance in February "was about £5,000,000, compared with about £9,000,000 in January. The improvement was mainly due to the vigorous cut in imports.
