DEMPSTER’S NEW POST.

[by CABLE —PBESS ASSN-. —COPYRIGHT.]

LONDON, March 21.

• The New Zealander, Dempster, has (been appointed financial secretary to Leicestershhe County Club, for which ho will play when lie is qualified. NOTTS COUNTY MEETING. j (Recd. March 22, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, March 21. The Nottingham County Club unanimously (Carried a peace resolution, approving the Advisory Committee’s ' definition of “direct attack.” The meeting was attended by 1500. Mr. McGrath said the peace motion li/is been described as unnecessary, in view of the so-called .conciliation meeting, which however comprised only six members, unauthorised to bind others. The controversy was now ended, but. the necessity to play the spirit of the game in addition to the letter is as great as previously. Dr. Adams, leader of the no-confi-dence group, seconding the motion, said he thought that something in addition to the.motion ought to be done to allay the miserable unrest. “If Bowes, or Clark, try bodyline, resulting in Marylebone’s wishing to act, Marylebone will find the strongest support in Nottinghamshire (cheers). We possess binding links in sporr. Let us forge these links as hands across the sea.”

Dr Adams was here shouted down by the restless crowd. While the clamour continued, Dr Adams concluded: It is evident you do not want to hear my suggested peace message to Australia. I cannot continue. Amid, such noise, Mr Whitby, supporting, said that the motion gave the rights of the matter once and for an. A member, speaking from the balcony, said it \ seemed unfair that Notts, which had never supported bedyline, should be singled out to support Marylebone’s resolution. Another declared that Notts had been made' to appear like the bad boy of cricket, but Notts had never been that.

The resolution wrns then enthusiastically adopted. A motion was next put rescinding the no confidence resolution, also expressing regret at the unjustifiable reflection on the personal and professional honour of Doctor Gould.

Interruption followed whereon the interjectors were told to sit down. iOn the principle “let bygones be bygones” Mr Whitby opposed the motion, whereon Doctor Hogarth declared the allegation that Doctor Gould’s report was subterfuge and unjustifiable. Voce was certainly unfit, and he complained on Saturday all day about his legs, and was specially treated for them. He added that Dr Gould was not justified in withdrawing him on the Tuesday to avoid a breakdown. Mr Whitby then apologised. Thereafter Mr Hogarth added the hope that members would apologise to Dr. Gould “and invite him to rejoin us .” (Cheers). . The motion was carried by a. large majority. Sir Julius Cahn was elected President.

A member protested while the audience was departing that the Committee had not referred to Carr’s services,; but the Chairman, Mr Huntsman, announced that the meeting had closed.
