FATAL HEAD INJURIES
DETECTIVE’S SON KILLED. [per press association.] HASTINGS, December 26. As the result of serious head injuries, received when he fell after being cowardly attacked on Christmas Eve, the death occurred late last night of Wilfred George Farquaharson, aged IS years, the second son of Detective Farquharson, of Hastings. The deceased accompanied a fellow girl employee home, .after the shops had closed, assisting lier with parcels. On arrival at the girl’s home, Farquharson was approached from behind, and dealt a blow while still holding the parcels. The blow was sufficient to fell Farquharson, who struck his head on the concrete kerbing in Ins fall, with the result that he received serious injuries. Farquaharson was taken home in an unconscious condition by a friend in a car. For a brief period only, he regained consciousness, and he died some twentyfour hours later. As a sequel, a young man named Maurice James Brooker appeared in the Police Cou,rt this morning, charged with manslaughter. He was remanded till January 16. Bail was refused. BANK CLERK ATTACKED. AUCKLAND, December 25. Left in the Tamaki railway station after being assaulted and robbed of £2O. Leslie Nicholson Allright, a. bank clerk, aged 36, was found by chance this afternoon, and was admitted to the Auckland Hospital suffering from severe head injuries. Considerable mystery surrounds the victim’s movements before he was discovered, and the police are engaged in an effort to trace his assailants. The discovery of the injured man was made by a youth who heard groans from within the building. He found that the door of the station had been forced open. The injured man had a broken nose, and there were several teeth knocked out. When told that he was at Tamaki, Allright was astonished, and was not able to say when or where he was assaulted or how he came to be in the district. His condition is fairly serious.
