HOKITIKA JUBILEE
PIONEERS’ DAY PROCESSION. [FEB PRESS ASSOCIATION.] HOKITIKA, December 27. The Hokitika jubilee celebrations were continued to-day in fine weather. A record crowd was present this morning, when the old-time procession took place. A fine display was made, headed by Maoris, in a wartime canoe, and including many old time relics and tableaux. The streets were gaily decorated, and lined with delighted spectators. The pioneers’ luncheon, at the Soldiers’ Hall, was largely attended. Sports are taking place on the racecourse this afternoon, with an old-time social in the evening. The town will be illuminated nightly throughout the week. The celebrations will continue on Friday and Saturday, with a wind-up on Monday night, the New Year being welcomed with a grand fireworks display. Many old Coasters, from all parts of New Zealand, are present for the celebrations.
