Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Y. Seddon, of Wellington, arrived yesterday, to attend the Hokitika. Jubilee celebrations.

Mrs. H. O’Donnell, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. C. Leopold, left to-day, on return to Dunedin.

Sister IL Smith, of the New Plymouth Hospital Staff, is visiting Dr and Mrs A. W. Wilkinson, of Wallsend.

The engagement is announced of Edna, only daughter of Mrs. E. Coumbe, Alexander Street, Greymouth, to Thomas, youngest son of Mr J. J. Wood, Cobden.

The retirement on superannuation on December 31 of Mr. Walter Green, controller of accounts for the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Ltd., and the appointment of Mr. F. Turner, of the company’s head office staff, to the position as from January 1, 1935, are announced. —Press Assn.

Sir Thomas Wilford, former High Commissioner for New Zealand, and Lady Wilford are expected to arrive by the Akaroa. from London on December 30. Dr P. F. McEvedy, of Wellington, who has been on a. visit to England, will also return by the Akaroa.

General Sir Alexander Godley and Lady Godley arrived at Invercargill from Melbourne by the Maheno last evening, and they intend making a tour of New Zealand, during the course of which Sir Alexander hopes to meet many of his former comrades in,arms. Sir Alexander and Lady Godley were official guests at the Centenary. They were deeply impressed with the celebrations, particularly the dedication of the- Shrine of Remembrance—Press Assn.

The death occurred at the Grey Hospital last evening, of Michael O’Brien, a native of Victoria, aged 71 years. Deceased came to New Zealand as a child, and had for about GO years resided in the Nelson Creek district, where he followed the occupation of a gold-miner. Latterly, he had resided at Ngahere. He leaves three brothers, John (Nelson Creek), Timothy (Blackball). and Daniel (Wellington), and five sisters, Mrs (Dr.) McLean (Culverden), Mrs S. Corcoran (Hastings), Misses Margaret, Catherine and Mary O’Brien (all of Wellington). Mr James Corcoran, of Brick Street, Greymouth, is a nephew of deceased. The funeral will take place to-morrow.

The wedding took place at Holy Trinity Church last evening, of Miss Anne Dando, second daughter of Mr and Mrs S. Dando, Preston Road, and Frederick Thomas Debenham, youngest son of Mr and Mrs H. Debenham, of Cobden. Archdeacon J. A. Jermyn officiated, and Mr T. F. Savage, L.A.8., presided at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her father, was attired in an ankle-length frock of ivory crepe de chine, cut on simple lines. She wore a beautifully embroidered tulle veil, held in place with a circlet of orange blossom, and carried a shower bouquet. Miss Gwen Dando attended her sister as bridesmaid, wearing an ankle-length frock of ’apple green crepe de chine. She wore a bandeau of green crepe de chine, and carried a lemon bouquet. Mr Gilbert George, of Kumara, was best man. The reception was held at Herb. Moore’s.
