SYDNEY CHILD MEETS KING
CHAT IN ROTTEN ROW. MELBOURNE, December 10. Susan Watt, who is two years old, met the King in unconventional circumstances during the world tour with her parents, Mr and Mrs Ernest Watt, of Sydney, from which she is returning in the liner Strathnaver. Mr Watt, who is a member of the firm of Gilchrist, Watt and Sanderson, said on the arrival of the Strathnaver at Melbourne to-day that each morning in London Susan’s nurse took her to Hyde Park. Susan delighted to watch the horses in Rotten Row, and one morning she said, “Hello Gee-Gee” when a particularly fine animal went past. The horseman reined in and asked the child who she was. She replied proudly, “I am an Australian.” The horseman, whom the nurse, but not Susan, had recognised as the King, asked -whether Susan had a horse of her own. When she said “no,” rather sadly, his Majesty asked whether she would like to feed his horse with some sugar, which he took from his pocket. Susan fed the horse, thanked the “nice man,” and ran off to play. The King rode on.
