IKAMATUA NOTES

[OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] The annual break-up social of the Ikamatua school was held in the Public Hall on Tuesday evening, when an enjoyable evening was spent. The items given by the children were much enjoyed, the evening ending in a dance. The items were as follow: Games “Grand old Duke of York”; Clap Dance. "Little Kittens” junior girls; song, “Widdicombe Fair” senior pupils; recitation ‘The Birthday Cake’ Pat Prendergast; recitation “Only a Pin” Stanley Halligan; Skating Dance, senior pupils; recitation “A Greeting” Betty Warring; song, “Springtime in the Rockies” Stanley and Neville Leggoe; physical drill display, senior pupils; recitation, ‘The Fairy Tailor” Tom Pfahlert and Stan Leggoe; '‘Grandfather’s Clock” senior scholars; “Daffodown-dilly” Aileen Reed and Kitty Mclnroe; “Scene from Tom Sawyer” Vernon McEwin and Bob Venis. Song, ‘No John” senior girls;. recitation “The Burning Penny” Neville Leggoe; recitation “Just Like a Man” Will McLennan; “Dutch Dance” senior pupils; song, “Aloha Oe” seniors. The members of the local Tennis Club are making the most of the fine weather and several ladder matches have been played. The competitors in the combined handicap competition have played several matches and keen interest is taken in these games. Mr. B. Cummings lias donated a trophy for the winners. Rain is wanted for the gardens; also by the farmers as the pastures are in a lot of cases being, dried up and ploughing is held up owing to the ground being too hard. If rain does not come, feed will be scarce not only now but also in the winter. Hay crops are very light in most places.
