It is reported that promising quartz has been located in the Moonlight district by a party of subsidised miners, comprising Messrs Fiddes and Meikle, •and the latter’s three sons. Work has been proceeding for more than a year, a drive having been put in at a site between the middle and righthand branches of Moonlight Creek. BELL HOOPER CROMWELL. Bell Hooper Cromwell report as follow for the week ending December 14: — No. 2 Mine Area. —No. 1 East Drive: This drive was advanced 8 feet, total 105 ft. cast. The face has been in bard mudstone, with gravel only showing in the top left-hand corner. To locate the channel a cross-cut to the north has been put out 20 feet. The bottom gradually fell to the floor level, but no- wash of value has been found. Starting point 100 feet east. The south cross-cut at 37 feet was advanced 13 feet, total 18 feet. Payable wash was passed through for the full distance. The blocking out cross-cut off No. la east drive was advanced 10ft. Values became poor in the last 5 feet and work here has been discontinued. A blocking out cross-cut to the north has been started, and advanced 131 feet in good gold. No. 1 east drive and tho north cross-cut at 100 feet produced no wash during the period. The return for the week was lOozs. Sdwts. 12grs. This mine, in common with other mines in the area, will close down for the holidays on Friday, Dec. 21. .

BELL-KILGOUR MINING CO. The secretary of the Bell-Kilgour Gold Mining Co., Ltd. (Mr. F. R. Thompson) advises receipt of report, from the manager, dated December 15, as follows: —Murray’s Claim: The north branch was advanced 24ft. 6in. for the period. Another old drive, evidently a cross-cut from the former one met with, was passed through. The floor is still dropping, and it appears as if the work has passed through the boulder zones first met with. Values are low. The fact that, the floor in the north branch is still dipping is an indication that better values may be I met with when the bottom levels cut. The east branch was advanced 26ft. The clay has now risen to cap level After another 20ft. of driving wifi cross out to the north, where it is re ported low ground was met with in former workings.
