BOOKMAKING CHARGE

S.M. CRITICISES POLICE. [PEG PBESS ASSOCIATION.] OAMARU, December 19. Roy Hunter, aged 24, a well-known footballer here, was fined £7/10/this morning, for bookmaking. He had been acting as agent for another. The Magistrate, Mr Bundle, commented adversely on the police action in not bringing the case sooner. The offence was committed on November 10, apd he was not satisfied as to the delay. Mr Bundle said it seemed also hardly in order for the police, when Hunter was called regarding the obtaining of a billiard saloon license, to state that they could make no promise, but that they might have to bring the matter of a double chart before the Court. A warrant should not be held up indefinitely.
