The Victorian Rugby Union received a letter from the New South Wales Union, intimating that a United States team contemplated a tour of Australia. AUCKLAND, December 18. The team of American professional golfers, who have been taking part in matches in Australia, returned to Auckland by the Monterey. Five of them played a medal round on Titirangi links. The course record of 71 was beaten by K. Y. Laffoon, who went round in 69. He was out in 35 and home in 34 including three putts at each of the fifteenth and sixteenth holes. In a few instances, he was conceded his final putt when his ball was within a foot or so of the hole, and for this reason the record may not be recognised. EVENING SPORTS The Greymouth Sports and Cycling Club are making a genuine effort to foster professional athletics in Greymouth, and while they have the competitors, the public support in the past has bee'll disappointing. This evening an attractive programme of cycling and ladies’ running events will be staged at Victoria Park. Good fields are assured and a large attendance is expected on this occasion.
