EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS
BISHOP LISTON’S RETURN. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, December 18. Bishop Liston, who returned to-day, after attending the Eucharistic Congress in Melbourne, said it exceeded the high hopes of its promoters. The cordial friendliness of civic authorities and the general public was one important factor im'its success. The otficial reception of the Cardinal Legate in the Town Hall by the Premier and the Lord Mayor, was one of the most dignified and happy functions he had ever seen. It was felt the friendliness of all sections of the community would do much for the public life of Australia, and the striking manifestations of religious faith had. made a deep impression on all. Bishop Liston mentioned that both the Papal Legate, Cardinal Mcßory, and the Archbishop of Liverpool (Dr Downey)/were anxious to visit New Zealand, and he thought it quite possible they would do so when returning to England,
