31LBS. AT BIRTH. George Chowlcs weighed HilUs. when ho was born. Ho is 22 now. He weighs 18 stone, - has not half an ounce of fat on him, is Home Counties, weight-lifting, champion, aud runner-up for the national weight-lifting championship. He did not compete last year, owing to bereavement, but is in training for this year’s contest. Before ago disqualified him he was junior national champion. Yet when he left school he was undersized. Whenever there is a specially heavy parcel or luggage-encumbered passenger at Paddington the cry goes up, “Where’s George?” For George is a porter. They tell how one time a foolhardy passenger was running along by a moving train trying to jump into it. Along came George. Tie grasped the man by the back of his coat and • ran along with him keeping the man’s feet off the ground, until the train had gone out. He lifted and held a “Sunday Express” representative over his head on the palm of one hand quite easily. He can lift and hold 3401 b., or hold without lifting -1001 b. “When I left school I took up boxing to try to strengthen myself,” he said to. the “Sunday Express” representative. “Then one ady I saw an eightstone man lifting a weight I couldn’t move from the ground, so I studied weight-lifting. Then 1 learned jujitsu. “They keep me splendidly lit. but that isn’t why Igo for them. J. do them iuoi for fun.”
