ACTRESS GAGGED
STORY OF STRANGE MAN'. LONDON, October 27. The police were making inquiries early this morning after it had been reported to them that Miss Helen Dori, the actress, had been attacked in her dressing-room at the New Theatre. It was stated that Miss Dori was found in her dressing-room bound to a chair. She was gagged with a handkerchief. Her handbag containing £l2 and a Russian ikon, was missing. Miss Dori is playing in “By Appointment” at the New Theatre. She states that about 7.50 pan. a man telephoned and gave the name of Williams. He said that he wanted to discuss film business with her. Miss Dori invited the man, whom she did not know, to come along. He was shown to the dressing-room. Latei* the man was seen to leave. The dresser entered Miss Dori’s room and found her gagged and bouud. Miss Dori was almost overcome with shock, and for a time was unable to speak coherently, but later she was able to take her part in the play. , Tho doorkeeper stated that the man looked like an Egyptian or a Russian. Scotland Yard was notified aud three officers began inquiries. Miss Dori is in private life the Baroness Mcycrndorff. She and her family were refugees from tlio Russian Revolution, and camo to live in England some years ago.
