“RESTRAINT” NECESSARY. [PEB PBESB ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, December 15. Need for the greatest restraint and understanding between New Zealand and Great Britain if there was to be maintenance of the excellent cooperation which had done so much to benefit New Zealand, Great Britain and the Empire as a whole, was stressed this morning by Mr Malcolm MacDonald, Parliamentary Under-Secre-tary for Dominion Affairs. Mr MacDonald and his sister, Miss Sheila MacDonald, were accorded a civic He said that world difficulties would not be overcome if they were going to regard over-production as the root of the trouble, which he maintained was under-consumption. He stressed the fact that interchange of visits of people from New Zealand to Great Britain was going to play a more important part in keeping inter-imperial relations sweet. They were at the beginning -of a difficult period in inter-imperial relations. Occasionally those in New Zealand did something to annoy the people at Home, and occasionally the people at Home did something to anoy those out here. They had to show the greatest restraint and understanding of each ether if they were to maintain, as he knew they could, that excellent cooperation which had done so much to benefit New Zealand, Great Britain and the Empire as a whole.
BRISTOL FUNCTIONS. LONDON, December 15. Sir James Parr, accompanied by Mr David Jones, visited Bristol yesterday, where they luncheoned at the docks and attended a banquet at the Mansion Hoiise. They expressed New Zealand’s gratitude for the fact that the West Country of England was her best trading area, particularly for butter and lamb, the arrivals of which at Avonrhbiith had increased nearly fivefold -since Sir James Parr’s previous visit in 192&.
