HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL. [OUB OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HOKITIKA, December 15. The monthly meeting of the Hokitika Borough Council was held last evening. Present: Mr G. A. Perry (Mayor), Crs. T. IV. Duff, J. Cu,ttance, Jas. King, A. R. Elcock, A. C. Armstrong. Apologies for absence were received from Crs. Heinz and Thompson. The Treasurer reported receipts amounting to £412/12/7, payments £458/4/11, credit balance £lB9 11/11. The Overseer reported 'that the average depth of water in the reservoir during the past month was sft 4in. The Princess Theatre Company wrote asking permission to erect a verandah in front of the theatre. —It was resolved that plans of the proposed verandah must be submited to the Council for approval. Mr D. Stevenson, has been appointed to inspect the theatre before a new license is issued in January next. The Abattoirs Manager reported: — 12 cows, 36 heifers, 64 bullocks; condemned one pig. Fees received £6O 3/-; for the same period last year £6l/7/6. Ah A. W. Yarrall’s tender for the supply of dog collars was accepted. An application was received from Revs. H. J. AV. Knights, G. A. Naylor, C. 0. Hailwood, and Dr. AVilson for the Council to adopt the system of numbering houses in the borough. The matter was deferred for future consideration.

Mrs E. Haddock wrote asking for a street crossing to her property in Weld Street, /md offering to do the work for £5. Miss L. Keller, Hall St., applied to instal septic tank on her property in Hall Street. —'Held over owing to shortage of water. Mr W. Gooch applied (1) for domestic water supply to Pt. Sect. 3300 at the corner of Brittan and Park Streets, and also for mormation of part of road to give access for carting timber to the section.—Granted. MrsW. Orpwood advised that she is taking over Mr Connelly’s property on the Hau Hau hill, and asking that the supply supply be turned on to the premises.—Unable to grant request. Mr J. Stewart advised that he had taken over the tenancy of M.R. No. 540, from Mrs Catherine Stewart.—Approved. Mrs M. Jackson wrote stating that seepage from drain-» age, and also flood water from Cameron’s paddock is reducing the value of her sections in North Revell Street, and asking whether Council can effect drainage.—Consideration deferred, owing to the heavy expense incurred in altering the main the Council prefers to let the arrangement stand. The Chairman, No. 12 District Highways Council, Greymouth, advised that the Main Highways Board had granted a. subsidy of £3 for £l, instead of £2 for £l, for sealing the Main Highway through the Borough of Hokitika, so that the Council’s contribution would be only £347 10s, instead of £450 10s, and that the job, plus supervision, will cost the Council about £380; and asking if the Council’s finances will allow payment of another instalment now that the contract is let The Secretary, Local Government Loans Board, outlining the position regard to the Converlson of Abat- : toirs Loan of £3,500, and also the Drainage and Street Works Loan of £6,000, £5,000 raised, and suggesting that a slight financial benefit would result from conversions, and that the Sinking Fund of the Abattoir Loan

would be changed to an instalment table basis, which would insure the loan being extinguished at the date of maturity. It was resolved to arrange for the | conversion of the loans.
