FIRE ON SHIP
OFFICERS PREVENT DISASTER [BY CABLE —PRESS ASSN. COPYRIGHT.] (Recd. Nov. 17, 8 a.m,). COLOMBO, November 16. A shipping disaster was averted by the prompt action of the officers on the Dutch steamer Baloeran, bound for Java. Two nights before the arrival at Colombo, a short circuit fire occurred in the first saloon lounge at 11.30 p.in. The passengers were awakened and alarmed, but there was no panic. The officers succeeded quickly in getting’ the outbreak under control.
