MR. J. BUTLER’S WILL
GIFTS TO WEST COAST. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, November 15. Under the will of the late Mr Joseph Butler, formerly ManagingDirector of the .Kauri Timber Company, Ltd., at Melbourne, charitable bequests and gifts to organisations are’ made. For probate purposes, the value of the estate has been sworn at under £38,000. In. addition to a large number of private bequests, the deceased left £2700 to be distributed as follows:— Auckland Club £5OO, Auckland Infirmary £5OO, ManureWa Children’s Home. £5OO, Westland Hospital, Hokitika .£5OO, Butler Brothers, Ltd., Ruatapu, £5OO, Grey River Hospital, Greymoiith £lOO, Royal N.Z. Yacht Squadron, Auckland £lOO. The purpose of the bequest to Butler Brothers, Ltd., Ruatapu, is to promote the social life or improve the social conditions of the employees of the company there. The late Mr Butler died in London at the age ofc 72 years. Coming to New Zealand as a young man, he settled on the West Coast, and was subsequently identified with timber interests in Westland and Northern Wairoa. He was Managing Director for New Zealand of the Kauri Timber Company for 13 years. Before his appointment to Melbourne in 1927 he was President of the Auckland Club. SYDNEY UNIVERSITY. SYDNEY, November 15. The late George Henry Bosch, a City merchant, who hitherto made gifts of £247,000 to Sydney University, has left to that institution the residue of his estate, valued at £257,000, subject to legacies to his widow, children and friends. It is estimated that the University will further benefit by £150,000. Mr Bosch died on August 13.
