ENTERTAINMENTS

OPERA HOUSE TO-NIGHT Two excellent features, will be. shown to-night and Saturday. “That’s My Wife,” starring Claud Allister, is choc-a-block full of screamingly funny situations, composed of a clean, subtle type of humour which will find instant response in all the Opera House patrons who appreciate the rich humour of good comedy. The other feature is “Smoky” and Victor .Tory has the leading role. “Smoky” is the story of a wild horse foaled on the plains of the West. Branded as a killer, he is known for his hatred of men. Only one man can understand him, and to him the horse shows undying devotion. This friendship of man and beast' is the basis of the film. So great is this devotion that when “Smoky” is stolen his friend loses interest both in his job and his girl and sets off in search of the animal.

BLACKBALL TO-NIGHT “After tho Ball” will be shown tonight. ■WALLSEND TO-NIGHT “Up To The Neck” will be shown to-night. HIGHLAND PIPE BAND CONTEST. Every indication points to the Highland Pipe Band contest to be held at Rugby Park to-morrow afternoon, being a great success. Six bands are competing, lincludiiig Christchurch, North Canterbury, Ashburton, Canterbury, Blackball, and Runanga. At the conclusion of the quickstep competition, a spectacular marching display will be given, under the direction of the supervisor, Mr H. Sweney, of Christchurch. It may be remembered that Mr Sweney visited Greymouth about five years ago, and conducted a spectacular crowning ceremony for the Municipal Band. At that time, it was considered that such a magnificent display had not previously been seen on- the West Coast. Tomorrow evening, at the Town Hall, a grand Scottish concert will be held, when visiting artists as well as local performers, will contribute to a well varied programme. The Mayor will present trophies at the evening performance.

There will be the usual children’s events, and an endeavour is to be made to present Swedish Drill items by the schools. There will be the usual cycling events, making a. bright, programme for February’s function.
