N.Z.—AUSTRALIAN TRADE

LONDON COMMENT. [BY CABLE—PRESS ASSN.—COPYRIGHT.] LONDON, November 14. “The Times” in a leading article, says:.lf Mr J. G. Coates, during his forthcoming visit to Australia, manages to reach an agreement with the Commonwealth on common fiction in respect to future meat and dairy exports to Britain, from those countries, it will certainly strengthen their hands in their negotiations with Britain, but this agreement; will not be easy, because there is a strong New Zealand opinion which feels that it is unfair that, while New Zealand is treating British goods more favourably than Australia does, both countries should receive the same treatment on the British market. Furthermore, the same New Zealand opinion holds that some of the Commonwealth’s marketing schemes are really subsidies, giving the Australian exporter an artificial advantage over the New Zealander. Anyway, the discussions Should be a useful preparation for more comprehensive informal discussions as between Britain and the Dominions during the King’s Jubilee.”
