QUARRY MISHAP
TWO MEN INJURED. [PEB PRESS ASSOCIATION’. ] CHRISTCHURCH, November 15. Two men were injured when a premature explosion occurred at Halswell quarries this morning. One, John Quill, quarry foreman, was struck hy falling rock and admitted to the hospital with severe' injuries to the face and chest. His condition is serious.
The other' man, G. Edwards, was struck on the leg by flying rock. He is also in the hospital. The accident happened at eleven o’clock, when the men were preparing a charge. Quill was standing on a pile of loose stone, and was loading • the shot in a hole, twelve feet up the face. Quill was tamping the shot in when it exploded. The vibration brought down six tons of rock, most of which fell about Quill. Edwards was struck by flying rock. Quill was -half buried under the rock. Quill is a middle-aged widower, and has a grown-up family. Both meh were experienced quarry workers.
