GREYMOUTH DEFEAT WESTERN. Greymouth juniors yesterday avenged their defeat by Western, when they Avon the second match by one goal to nil. The ground was very greasy, and this tended to slow up the fast Western team. Greymouth adapted themselves better to the conditions, and held a slight advantage throughout. Neither side was able to score in the first half, and it was not till well into the second spell that Greymouth obtained the winning goal. Restieaux hitting the upright for De Freatus to net off the rebound. Mr. R. Airns was referee.
WELLINGTON v. CANTERBURY. WELLINGTON, June 4. By 4 goals to 3 Wellington beat Canterbury at the Basin Reserve in the first representative Association Football game this season. The game was not spectacular, but it was hard and fast and k<pt the 3000 spectators interested. As a team Canterbury was better and showed combination that was superior to 'Wellington, especially among the forwards. However, their finishing was not up to standard. Wellington’s exhibition was not altogether satisfactory and several considered that they were lucky to win. A draw might have been a better indication of the run of things, although late in the second spell Canterbury were bustled. Wellington scorers were Jones (2), Kershaw and Leslie. Canterbury scorers were Ellis (2), and Smith. WELLINGTON V. WAIRARABA. WELLINGTON, June 4. An interesting Association football game, played between Wellington Senior B representatives and Wairarapa, was Avon by the former by two goals to one. Liddicoat, who scored both the winner’s goals, netted the second right on lime. The Wairar.apa scorer was Jolly.
