It’s an ill wind that blows nobody any good. The falling sheep market during the past few seasons provided a satisfactory financial return to a Waikaka district farmer. He purchased for £2/10/. the lot of a line of 240 ewes which averaged 21d per head, at last season’s Waikaka fair. This season (says the “Mataura Ensign”) the wool off the ewes made 19Jd, the lambs were sold at 22/- per head, and the tops of the ewes made 14/-. At the last Waikaka. sale the lucky speculator secured 10/4 for the balance of the ewes.
