NEW SWIMMING RECORD. [pee peess association.] DUNEDIN, April 13. In a special attempt this evening on W. W. Lareaitu’s New Zealand 59 yards free-style record of 24 2-5, W. J. Jarvis lowered the figures by 1 1-5 secs., covering the distance in 23 1-5 secs. It is proposed, subject to Jarvis doing satisfactory time in the 100 yards next week, to nominate him for the Empire Games. BOXING LONDON, April 12. At the Albert Hall, in an eight-round bout, Wen Foord knocked out Eddie Phillips, of London, in the last round. In a twelve-round bout, Len Harvey beat Jimmy Tarante, an American » negro, who was disqualified in the fifth round for hitting low. He had been given three warnings.
