NEVER ATTENDED CHURCH
BOY REJECTED AS WITNESS. BRISBANE, March 4. A boy, aged nine years, who was called to give evidence in the Texas Police Court, was rejected as a witness by Mr P. G. Knyvett, P.M., after having been questioned as to his knowledge of the nature of an oath. Replies given by the child indicated that .he had never been to church or Sunday school and knew nothing about. God. He did not know the Bible, and could 1 not distinguish between a lie and the truth.
Mr Knyvett said it was a very sad state of affairs. Had it occurred in the far west, it might have been understood, but this was a closely settled area, where children had the advantage of religious instruction, even in State schools.
