DUNEDIN WOOL SALE

“FRANTIC BIDDING” CH.CH. PRICES SURPASSED [PEB PRESS. ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, December 20. Expectations were exceeded at the first Dunedin wool sale, which commenced this morning. Twenty-nine thousand bales were offered, and all purchasing countries were represented. The frantic bidding was reminiscent of old times. The chief competitors in the first catalogue came from Germany and France. Bradford was also operating freely and Japan with closer limits.

The prices showed a definite advance on Christchurch, especially for halfbreds. Phenomenal prices were realised on pieces and necks. Whereas it was the exception at the last December sale to reach double figures, failure,to realise this was the exception on this occasion.

The first catalogue comprised 7895 bales. Brokers’ values were exceeded, the only passings being a small lot of very low crossbred wool. The total passings were only 58 bales representing .74 per cent. Up to noon, the top prices were halfbred 22d, superfine crossbred 17d, necks 205 d.
