Five birds belonging to members of the Greymouth Pigeon Club wore railed from Greymouth to Christchurch on. Saturday, and went noitli by the night boat. They were liberated at Wellington by the captain ot the steamer, shortly after 7 a.m. yesterday. The first bird home, Mr. R. McPherson’s Sir Ronald, reached Greymouth at 2.8 p.m., and was followed by Mr. O. Jackson’s Red Shadow at 2.10 p.m. The other birds had not been clocked in at nightfall. The race was one of about 320 miles, direct air line, and it is expected that, when the time is worked out, it will be a recoid for the club. The winner secures the patron’s trophy and a championship certificate. It is intended to hold a race from Upper Hutt, on a date to be fixed A race for hen birds will be held next week from Inangahua Junction.
