DISTRICT CRICKET

MARIST TAKE LEAD. Conditions yesterday were ideal for the continuation of the West Coast Cricket Association’s competition, and wickets and grounds generally were in good order. The two wickets at the Recreation Ground were easy and favoured the batsmen, and the outfields were fast. Marist, by their three point win over Brunner, have now taken the lead, one point ahead of United, who yesterday secured only a two-point win over Star. Marist and United both had easy victories, while the Cobden A.-Cobden 8., and the Kumara-Runanga games, while comparatively closer, resulted in victories for the former team in each case. Owing to the inclemency of the weather, there were no senior Saturday games, but the third graders played their fixtures. Marist put up a big score against Technical, several good individual scores being registered, and they won easily. The Camerons thirds scored a two-point win over a depleted Cobden team. THREE-POINTER TO MARIST. Playing on a batsman’s wicket on the No. 2 ground at the Recreation Ground, Marist defeated Brunner by an innings and 96 runs, thus gaining a three-point win. Morris 53 retired, F. Bayley 51 retired, and Matthews 22 not out were the principal scorers. Brunner, in their second strike again failed, Buckman, not out 20, being the only one to reach doubles in a score of 63. Matthews, Morris and Cornish shared the bowling. Scores: —
