RUSSIAN CONVICTS
TIMBER CAMP FIGHT

A furious battle followed the escape of a trainload of convicts at Vologda, on route to Archangel timber camps.
The occupants of a wagon broke loose on arrival at the. station, overpowered and disarmed the guards, liberated their fellow prisoners, set fire to the local police station, and massacred the inmates.
Troops hastened from the town and stormed the station buildings, where a. fierce engagement occurred. Hundreds were killed and wounded on both sides. Many of the convicts fled to the forests, where the soldiers are pursuing them.
