COBDEN DEFEAT EXCELSIORS. In the annual match for the McLean Trophy, Cobden, winners of the Grey competition, defeated Excelsiors, winners of tho Hokitika competition, bw 11 points to 6. The ground was in no condition for spectacular football, after the heavy rains, and the game, was not exciting. Excelsiors were first to show up, and early had a lead of six points through tries scored by Muir and Richards. Thereafter, Cobden were superior, and in the second spell rattled on 11 points, tries by Gordon, Brailsford and Scott, and a conversion by Martyn. Mr. Menzies was referee. KUMARA DEFEAT ROSS. Kumara (last year’s winners) defeated Ross juniors in a match for the Graham Wise Cup, at Kumara, on Saturday, by 6 points to nil. McGrath scored a try, and Ryan kicked a penally. Mr. D. Mackay was referee.
