RUNANGA SCHOOL FIRE

RESULT OF INQUIRY. An inquiry was held at Runanga on Saturday by Messrs R. Wild and H. J. Bignell (Canterbury Education Board) the. Chairman (Mr R. J. Armstrong, and Secretary (Mr J. Piner) of the School Committee and of the staff of the school, into the circumstances of the recent fire at the school. It was stated previously that no mining class was held on the evening previous to the fire, bqt it was found at the enquiry that the members of the mining class did meet in tke schoolroom on that evening; but, owing to the absence of the instructor, left shortly after. < Evidence was heard from people . who were in the vicinity at the Time of the outbreak, but nothing could 1 be found that indicated wilful burning, and the finding was that the fire was accidental, there being no evidence of g incendiarism. Detective-Sergeant T. E. Holmes and Constable Swan repre» -. sented the Police Department.
