BRITAIN’S NAVY
GOVT.’S CHANGED POLICY [by CABLE —-PRESS ASSN. —COPYBIGHT.] (Rec. September 5,1 p.m.) - LONDON, September 4. It is believed that Britain is considering naval replacement plans, particularly among cruisers, .work on which may shortly be commenced, as part of' the Government’s plans for productive public "works to unemployment. ~-r\ . . ■ It is understood that Mr] MacDonald is eager for the adoption of some form of public works which economists, Mr. Brtice, and Dominion representatives persistently advocated at the Economic ’Conference, but the Government particularly, Mr. Runciman and Mr. Chamberlain, opposed it. The “Sun” believes a series of Cabinet meetings of which to-morrow's will be the first, will discuss the scheme. Meanwhile, the major naval problem in the near future is .Japan’s demand for parity with Britain and , America, which nobody cares to prophesy how it can be denied. .
