PENNILESS COUPLE
“BORROW” CAR AND BENZINE. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] HAWERA, August 17. A story that when destitute, and in search of a. place for himself and wife to sleep, he succumbed io the temptation of taking a. car in an endeavour to reach relations in Hamilton, was told by Allan James Carl er, 22, at the Court, when ho and his wife, Margaret Patience Carter, 19, were (hanged with converting, at Wellington on August 8, a car belonging to Knight McCartney.
Tho man was also charged with the theft of five gallons of benzine, which he secured without, payment at a bowser station at Kaiiwi. Both pleaded guilty. Tho police said there was no doubt the pair were absolutely penniless. Carter was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment. His wife was convicted and discharged.
