BITTEN BY MAD RABBIT

17 ANIMALS ATTACKED. ARRAS, July 6. Havoc has been wrought in a peasant household at Annay-sous-Lens, Northern France, by a mad rabbit, which bit a man and his wife, M. and Mme. Lefebvre, their three children, ten chickens, three ducks, three cats, and a dog. All the bitten animals have been killed by order of the veterinary surgeon. The five human victims have been hurriedly taken to the Pasteur Institute at Lille, for it is feared that the rabbit was suffering from rabies. Mme. Lefebvre bought the rabbit, an exceptionally strong and healthylooking animal, at a neighbouring market. She was carrying it home when it. suddenly knocked away the lid of her basket, and bit her. ■When she reached her house the rabbit escaped, and, bounding round the kitchen, bit M. Lefebvre, his son, and two daughters in succession, and then set upon the family pets. The rabbit was at length captured and consigned to the hen run. There it started biting every chicken and duck it could find.
