CROWD HOSTILE TO POLICE. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH. August 11. As a sequel ro an argument over a bet with another man, on the Riccarton racecourse on Saturday, William Biown, 54, hotelkeeper, Greymouth, this morning, was fined 10/- for drunkenness, and £3, in default tout teen days’ gaol for obscene language. The police stated that after the arrest of Brown, the crowd became hostile, and there was difficulty in getting Brown away. Magistrate Mosley said the hostility of the crowd was a bad feature.
