REPS. DEFEAT “REST” There was a fair attendance at Winghani Park yesterday afternoon, to witness the game between the West Coast team, which left this morningon a tour of the North Island, and a team selected from other club players. • The match was not taken seriously by either side, and spectators soon lost interest. The Reps, were decidedly stronger, and gave a good exhibition at times, to score almost at will. The opening try came from a back movement, which ended in O’Connor crossing the line for the Reps. Hunt failed to convert. Scott later picked up from the ruck, and went across to add the second try for the Reps. Dowling missed the kick at goal. Then Hart received and sent to Dodds, to Williams who scored. The try was not converted, Dowling’s kick going wide. Reps. 9, Rest 0. Tries were next secured by Devonport, and Scott, one of which Masters converted. Just on the call of half-time, Wooster scored for the Rest, R. Williams missing with ' the shot at goal. Reps 17. Rest 3. In the second spell the players failed to take the play seriously, and some of the spectators left for home, much before the match concluded. Tries for the Reps in this spell were scored by Devonport (2), Williams, Dodds, and Scott. Masters converted two tries. For the Rest Costello (2), Broome, Preston, crossed the line, R. Williams converting two. The final scores were, Reps 36, Rest 19.

The West Coast. Rugby League representatives.' with Mr. L. Hunter (manager), Mr. A. Anisy (assistantmanager) and a number of supporters, left this morning for Wellington, where on "Wednesday they will play the first match of the northern tour against the Wellington representatives. JUNIOR GRADE At Winghani Park yesterday, the Runanga juniors defeated Pirates by eight points to nil. The match was confined mostly to the forwards, and Runanga were heavier, and speedier than the Pirates pack. MARIST BEATEN BY NGAHERE. Marist Juniors suffered their first defeat. for this season at the hands of the Ngahere representatives at Ngahere, yesterday. The game was played under perfect weather conditions on a, good dry ground, before a large crowd, who witnessed a good, thrilling, clean game. The referee was Mr D. Farris. Marist opened the game with a quick passing rush that seemed to stagger the opposition, the ball passing from one player to another, with speed and precision, and within two minutes Pollock scored near the line. Roberts’ kick failed. From then on, the gam© was fast and thrilling, play going up and down the field, first Marist strongly defending, and then Ngahere having to defend at their end. the spectators being kept in throes of anticipation. At halftime the scores were: Ngahere 8, Marist 3, and the final scores were: Ngahere 14, Marist 13. For Ngahere, S. Mayne scored twice, J. Donaldson and L. Gillman once each, and G. Gillman kicked a penalty. ’For Marist, Pollock scored twice, Roberts once, and-two tries were converted. Griffen, for Marist, probably played the best game on the field, using his head and taking advantage of every opportunity. 'Roberts was brilliant, and on his showing should be playing senior. Beban was a stumbling block to the Ngahere team and played a sterling game. Sweteman was off his game, and he was the only noticeable weakness in the Marist team. The solid weight of the Ngahere pack and their quickness to smother, really saved tho day lor them. The veteran player, S. Kerr, was outstanding ,and started off every attacking movement. R. Donaldson, at full back, played a good, 9001, safe game. J. Donaldson, G. Gillman, S. Mayne, and Gibson were the best of the others in the team. K. Harper played poorly, in the first part of the game, and was evidently unfit, but at the latter end of the game ho made a few almost brilliant efforts. THIRD GRADE In the third grade competition. Marist were defeated by Pirates, by 11 points to 3. For the winners, O’Connor, Stewart, and Kennedy crossed the line, Stewart converting one try. Morel crossed for a try for Marist. FOURTH GRADE. Marist 26 v. Pirates 6.—The ground was in a fairly bad state, but Marist backs put in some good movements, and some forward rushes went the length of the field, to defeat easily the Pirates, who were not at Cull strength. However, Pirates had M'arist bustled at times with good loose forward rushes. The scorers for M’arist were E. Casey, R. Taylor. E. Ti/rner, P. Beban, W. Ryan and M. Nes/)itt a try each. W. Ryan converting three, and D. Heaphy one. Also prominent for Marist was I. Beams. C. Lindbom scored two unconverted tries for Pirates who. with the Mulqueen brothers and Browe were the mainstay of the Pirates’ team. The result of this game puts Marist and Runanga level in the Fourth Grade championship, with Pirates and Runanga yet to meet. Mr Currie was referee. BLACKBALL DISPUTE SETTLED.
