TENNIS
BRITISH TEAM’S TOUR. [BY CABLE PRESS ASSN. COPYRIGHT.] NEW YORK, August 11. The British tennis players, Perry, Lee, Avery, and Wilde, arrived here to-day for a series of engagements, including the National Championships at Forest Hills in September, and matches at San Francisco and Los Angeles. They have not decided whether to extend their tour to Australia. Referring to the defeat of the United States team in the Davis Cup round, Perry said he thought “the Americans may have underestimated our team. Certainly they seemed under-trained when we played them, rather than over-trained. Then, too, you people over here have never seen the real Austin. If you had, and knew him as we do for the sound player he is, you would not have been so surprised when he beat Vines. If you ask me for the single factor that helped to beat the Americans most, I would say it was their service. It was less effective at Rolandgarros than on grass anyway, and when Austin and I returned it successfully, w T e immediately had an advantage.” VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND. LONDON, August 11. It is believed that F. J. Perry and F. H. Wilde, after the American championships, -will travel via New Zealand where they will stay for a week and play a match. From New Zealand they will travel to Sydney, where they will be joined by G. P. Hughes, H. G. N. Lee and Barnett, who have been requested to be present in readiness to play a test if necessary.
