OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT. Forty-two sets were built and furnished elaborately to provide proper settings for “Strange Justice,” to be screened to-night and Tuesday, featuring Marian Marsh, Norman Foster and Reginald Denny. The story pendulum swings from a brief scene at Sing Sing prison to one of Broadway’s “white spots,” an exclusive night club patronised by New York’s millionaire playboys. A FINAL REMINDER. The learners’ old time and jazz dance will be again in full swing at Herb Moore’s Cabaret to-night. A Monte Carlo Foxtrot with two valuable prizes will be included on the programme. Two M’s.C. will take charge. Steels' Orchestra. M. 8.0.8. BALL. The Marist Brothers Old Boys’ Association will hold a grand anniversary ball in Schaef’s Hall on Wednesday. Continuous music will be supplied by Williams’ and Steel’s Orchestras for old-time and modern dances. THE COMPETITIONS The annual Festival of the West Coast Competitions Society will commence on Wednesday morning at 9.30 and will be continued throughout the week until Wednesday, 23rd, inst, when the first demonstration will be held, the second taking place on Thursday evening when the presentation of trophies will be made. The presence of a number of outside competitors will add interest to the Festival, and it will be instructive to notice the methods observed by competitors from outside the West Coast, some of whom come with a high reputation for presenting excellent work in the various sections in which they are to compete. Though entries in all classes are satisfactory, that for the singing sections is perhaps the best ever received in Greymouth and patrons are assured of interesting programmes throughout the week. The box plan is open at Kilgour’s and single reservations can be made, or those for the full season. In order to complete the evening programmes in good time, it has been decided to commence at 7.15 o’clock. CANTERBURY WINTER SHOW Only from now to next Saturday remains for visiting the Canterbury Winter Show and Industrial Exhibition in Christchurch. By reason of its countless and varied attractions, the Winter Show justifies the widespread popularity it enjoys. It affords exceptionally good entertainment for all visitors and furnishes an imposing and enlightening presentation of the strides that are being made by the industrial sections of Canterbury. Intensely interesting when viewed from the important angle of the relationship between our industrial activities and the general Welfare of the community, the Winter Show also provides good amusement in a generous measure. Side Shows, “Chocolate Alley”, Dancing, Mannequin Parades, Tugs-of-War, Gymnastic Displays, and plenty of bright band music combine to entertain the visitor A daily estimating competition, free to’ all who attend, provides prizes of £1 first and 10/- second for the correct or nearest correct estimate of the attendance each day. The crowds that attend day and night are thoroughly warranted by the unique so ably provided by this year s Winter Show and Exhibition in Christchurch. NGAHERE BALL. The Ngahere Hall ball hold last Fii day was a huge success, from all parts of the district. The <■ was tastefully decorated with pink and white streamers and flowers, and r J. floor was everything desired. Mie music was supplied by the Gaiety t ichestra and was enjoyed by listeners as well as dancers. Mr D. Faris filled the duties of M.C. and was very capable. The supper arrangements were in the hands of the Committee, the tables being decorated in pink and white flowers and streamers. The Monte Carlo Waltz was w r on by Miss Iris Parks and parner. Miss Jessie Howden and Mr George won the prizes

Mayne, Kidd, Ware, and others. MOANA W.I. DANCE. Under the auspices of the Moana Women’s Institute, a brilliant and successful ball took place in the Moana Hall, on Saturday evening. Visitors from far and near were enabled to dance to their hearts’ content to the strains of “The Happiness . Boys’ Band.” Over sixty couples took the floor. Brightly coloured novelty hats added to the bright scene, and several novelty dances were indulged in. Mr Burns obliged with a step dance which was loudly applauded. The supper arrangements were in the hands of Mrs Rankin and an energetic committee. Much credit is due to them for the capable way in which they served supper. The M’s.C. deserve praise for their share in the happy evening. Mrs Taylor was in i charge of a well patronised bran tub.
