MESSAGES OF SYMPATHY. [PEB PBESS ASSOCIATION.] ~ WAIHI, July 31. In connection with Wednesday’s remarkable accident at the Waihi Gold Mining Company’s mine, when a cage containing twelve men broke away, falling several hundred feet without anybody being killed, the Mayor has received the following message from the Governor-General: —“Please convey to the injured by the serious accident at the Waihi mine shaft, the deep sympathy of Lady Bledisloe and myself; also the warm congratulations at their escape from death, and our earnest hopes for their speedy recovery.” The London Board of Directors cabled: “Please convey the sympathy of the Board to all concerned, and the hope that the injured are making good progress.” The Secretary of the Waihi Miners’ Union received messages of sympathy from Mr P. Fraser, President of the National Executive, and Mr James Thorn, Secretary of the New Zealand Labour Party.
