JOHN BURNS CUP Under ideal weather conditions, the Grey Swimming Club retained, by 17 points to 9. the John Burns Challenge Cup, against the Cobden Club, at the Municipal Baths, last evening. The attendance was large. Results: — 220yds. John Burns Cup event. —L. Lind (Cobden) 1, A. Vincent (Grey) 2, J. .Hardie (Cobden) 3. Also competed: L. Pound (Cobden) and L. J. Moore house (Christchurch). L. J. Moorehouse swam an exhibition race only and won with ease in the splendid time of 3min. 0 2-5 secs., after swimming backstroke throughout. He led Lind and Vincent over the full distance. Lind held an advantage on Vincent at the last turn, but there was only a bare margin between them at the finish. Hardy was a good third. Time 3rnin. 9sec.
