REEFTON NOTES

[our own correspondent.] REEFTON, October 15. A meeting of th© Inangahua Valley branch of the. Farmers’ Union was held in the Rotokohu Schoolroom. Mr P. Bell presided over a fair attendance. A delegation from the Reefton A. and P. Association also attended. The following resolutions were carried: That a letter of protest be sent to the Minister of Agriculture regarding the proposed alteration in the herd testing; that a remit be sent to the Provincial Executive relative to the importance of the extermination of Ragwort. The deputation from the A. and P. Show Committee at Reefton, placed before the branch the question of the inclusion of Stock Sections in the schedule of the forthcoming season’s Show, and. the matter was fully discussed. It was resolved that this branch heartily support the Stock Sections at the Show. Three Rugby football games are set down as fixtures for Sunday. Two games are being played for the Knock-out Cup and Cobden juniors meet Reefton juniors at 2.30 p.m. Mr N. Nicholls, who is in charge of the machinery at the Surprise Colliery, Burke’s Creek, on Tuesday last, slipped on the Flat Sheet and was caught by a truck and crushed against a bulk of timber, suffering two fractured ribs and being badly Shaken. Mr Nicholls will be off work for a period. Mr A. Doig, of Blackwater, is in indifferent health, and is in Reefton securing medical attention, having been ordered six weeks complete rest. The deaths occurred at Reefton Hospital this morning of the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Fattorini, Reefton, and Mr. J. Sullivan, aged 50, a carter, for many years a resident in the Grey Valley, after a long illness. He was a native of the Nelson district.
