It was resolved that the Chairman and Miss E. Moore (of the teaching staff) purchase new curtains for the Alain School.
Mr Williams, for the Visiting Committee, reported that everything was going satisfactorily at both schools. At the School asphalt repairs or renewals were required all round. Blinds were required in the infant room, where the glare of the sun was a hindrance. At Blaketown, the ground required further top-dressing, and a new coke box was required. The report was adopted. Mr Williams was deputed to see to the erection of a coke-box.
The Secretary, in rely to a query from Mr Tennent, said that the roll last month was 582, whereas the average attendance was only 482. This meant that there were about 100 absentees.
Mr Tennent emphasised the necessity for keeping the school attendance up, especially over the last quarter. If the attendance was not good, a teacher might be taken away from the school at the start of the new school year. Parents should realise that it was imperative that their children be sent to school now, more especially as. the examinations were only a short time off.
